It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Thompson, co-founder of C&W Appliance Service.
On December 27, 2022, Wayne was called Home, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and dedication to the appliance repair industry.
Wayne Thompson grew up with humble beginnings and roots, but his ambition and hard work helped him build a better life for himself and his family. Along with Chuck Gregory, he co-founded C&W Appliance Service in 1958, with the goal of providing exceptional customer service and quality repairs. Throughout his life, Wayne lived by his personal motto, “Always do the right thing. Always,” a phrase that continues to be a daily reminder across the company.
Wayne was also a leader in the industry and was instrumental in establishing the United Appliance Services Association (UASA), which is now the trade association for the appliance repair industry. When Wayne started in 1958, appliance technicians were not held in high regard and were often relegated to using the side door (not the front) of customers’ homes. Wayne worked diligently to professionalize the industry and raise the skill level and customer service of technicians.
“Wayne was a leader and a mentor. While he had high standards, he cared deeply for the people in the business,” said Philip LaPlante, Service Manager at C&W Appliance Service. “He was a visionary and always had a plan for how we could improve and grow as a company. I am proud to have been a part of his legacy for the past 40 years.”
Wayne’s son, Dave, worked alongside his father for the last 20 years and helped carry on the family heritage and roots of the company.
