Common Issues With Wolf Ovens
Delayed Ignition
An oven or burner that doesn’t ignite or is experiencing a delayed ignition. In this case, you’ll either have no heat at all, or you might notice that your appliance isn’t heating up quite as fast as it used to.
With a gas stovetop, you might be having an issue with a blocked gas jet, which is sometimes the result of a buildup of splashed foods or oils. If you’re having trouble with a weak gas supply or slow ignition you will want to make sure that your gas burner isn’t overly dirty.
To resolve this simply remove the burner grate and cap, and clean with a non-abrasive cleaner. Once clean, test your burner again to see if this has resolved your problem.
Clicking Ignitor Switch
If you’re experiencing an ignitor switch that clicks repeatedly or that clicks when you’re not using it, it might be faulty and need to be replaced. This can be done at home by cutting the power supply, disconnecting any wires, and removing the screws that are holding it in place.
Gas Supply Line Issues
For gas appliances, if your issue isn’t related to a faulty ignitor switch, you might be having an issue with your gas line supply. If you suspect an issue with your gas lines or suspect a gas leakage, always turn off the gas valve at your home’s main supply line immediately, and contact a professional repair service and your gas company immediately.
C&W Appliance Services can come and take a closer look at your oven.
Wolf Oven Not Heating Up
Whether you have a Wolf oven, or any other brand name oven, an oven that won’t heat up properly can be a very common occurrence.
If your Wolf oven won’t heat up here are some possible causes:
1. Damaged Electric Heating Element
The most likely cause is a damaged or faulty heating element. Heating elements take a lot of wear and tear from continuously being heated and cooled down. Before you check the heating element it is recommended to perform a hard reset. This is done by turning off the breaker to your Wolf Oven for 30 seconds and then back on again. Once this has been ruled out as an issue, try to look for signs of damage to the heating elements themselves. Signs of damage include:
- Blistering
- Cracks
- Breaks
- Discoloration
2. Broken Ignitor in Gas Ovens
If the ignitor doesn’t produce a spark, the oven won’t be able to heat up when needed. It can be difficult to tell if an ignitor is broken just by looking at one. Therefore, a multimeter is needed to perform the real test.
If you suspect you’ve got a broken igniter, the best thing to do is call a repair technician. Professional appliance repair technicians have the right knowledge and tools to find and fix the problem in as little time as possible.
Wolf Oven Tips From Our C&W Appliance Technicians
- Often the oven needs a few more minutes to finish heating after preheating has completed. This is due to heat not being evenly distributed even though it may show ready. Pre-heating can take 10-15 minutes – but up to 20 for the entire cavity to be evenly heated.
- Faulty temperature probes are a more common issue. If the oven is set to 350, but the technician’s temperature probe reads 380 – and the oven is only sensing 335, this indicates a faulty probe. The oven therefore is running hot and may continue to heat, which could significantly burn food unknowingly. C&W Appliance Service technicians will check your Wolf thermometer probe to ensure the temperature is within 5-10 degrees. They will also perform a diagnostic to ensure the ovens are heating appropriately to provide the perfect temperature for food (including where to put certain foods and settings for the perfect recipe).
- Cleaning the insides of your oven can be tricky. You don’t want to use harsh chemicals that will ruin the surface of the inside. Using Mister Clean Magic Eraser is recommended, as it does not contain acidic chemicals that can damage the interior cavity.
Self Clean Option Tips
Here are some tips you should know before self-cleaning your Wolf oven.
Wolf Dual Fuel, Induction, and Electric Ovens
- Remove all oven racks and rack guides, as they will discolor if left in the oven during self-clean.
- Remove the bake stone, if in place.
- Wipe out the oven cavity before running self-clean to help reduce smoke and odors.
- For double ovens, note that only one oven can be in self-clean mode at a time, and the other oven cannot be used during this time.
- Surface burners are safe to use while the oven is self-cleaning.
- During self-clean, exterior surfaces may get hotter than usual, so children should be kept away.
- Turning a unit off during self-cleaning is discouraged. Damage can occur if self-clean does not complete.
- Run self-clean as often as needed. It is generally not necessary more than a few times per year.
Wolf Legacy E Series Oven
During self-cleaning, the oven heats to an extremely high temperature to burn off food soil.
- Remove all oven racks and rack guides.
- Remove the bake stone if in place.
- The oven door will lock and stay locked until the self-cleaning is complete and the oven temperature has cooled below 300°F (150°C).
- E Series self-clean times can be adjusted between three and four hours.
- Self-clean times include one hour for it to cool down.
